Fishhead tweaked for prints

Took an old illustration of a fishhead and enlarged it so I can print it at 50inches wide. So I had to go over it with a photoshop brush to add back detail... gave it a bit more while i was at it. going to print it on canvas and see how it looks. Will post a photo when it arrives...

vid test of puppet

Here's a quick video of the 2nd puppet...

Fun to make, but it's definitely rough. first time sewing and I rushed through it. Just wanted to see all the components together... next one will be of better quality and materials.

Rainier

Been a bit...Here's a sketch of Ben Franklin and my 2nd attempt at making a puppet (work in progress). Puppet needs pupils and I made him horns. The sewing is atrocious on him, but I kinda rushed it and I've never sewn before.

great funk album from emperor norton records for a fake blaxsploitation movie.

Pancho! Movie Poster #3

Here's the finished Don Quixote poster. I really should have sketched out the idea beforehand. The concept is a bit weak, but I still like it.

Mock Movie Posters - Round 1

Here are those two close shaped illustrations I started. They've evolved into mock movie posters... I think I'm going to make more. Coming up with silly copy is actually pretty fun.

I'm thinking a Doctor Who and a Don Quixote next? Any suggestions?

Closed Shapes are fun! (and some funky funk)

So I'm addicted. Creating pieces using only closed vector shapes is challenging and freeing at the same time. The cutout look leaves room for less precision, but forces you to focus more on stronger character development... ie... recognizable silhouettes... rather than creating visual interest by using a plethora of detail lines (I'm guilty). I'm by no means a master at this style yet, but I can see it really helping my future work. I got the idea from falling in love with Matte Stephens' art and his mastery of Cartoon Modern. (check out his shop on etsy.com Matte Stephens). I wanted to created pieces that mesh my style and Cartoon Modern... simplify and reduce my line work while making recognizable and distinct characters.

Below are two unfinished and close up samples of the style, along with an initial sketch, Sherlock and Watson (Watson is a bit weak in design) and Ishmael from Moby Dick (posted before). I want to give them a bit more love before posting fully, and I keep getting ideas for new cutouts to start!

tidbits

Hi all,
So I thought I'd let you know about some of the projects I'm working on. First off I've started working on a mobile game. It's in the very preliminary stages, but I'll keep you updated on it's progress. If you know any programmers please let me know. I'll be in the market pretty soon! Here's a quick sneak peak at some rough concept art:
I've also been trying my hand at a couple different styles. Below is a sneak peek at a construction paper (texture to be added later) purely shape style I've started and am really enjoying!
I just started shopping around for an Illustration/Writing agent, and I'm finally at a place where I am being constantly productive on my children's books and personal projects! It's very exciting. If anyone wants to collaborate on a project let me know. I'm down to get as much done this year as humanly possible!

Brother's Restaurant OPENING!!!

So good news... my brother's restaurant, Root 174, is opening up this Tuesday (5-10)!!! He's an amazing chef and a strong supporter of local farmers and giving back to the community.

I was lucky enough to get to design his logo for him and I think it turned out pretty well. He even got a sweet sign made for the front of the building (check out below).  Check out www.root174.com for a sample menu and to read up on the restaurant and staff... site's a little rough, but I'll get it fixed up soon.

Also go "like" his facebook page if you want to show him support.
Thanks!!!

Rainbow Chaser

Have been super busy as of late, working on my brother's site, an iPad game, the cartoon pitch, two children's books, my full-time job, my demo reel, and some freelance work! Not complaining, it's definitely nice to be busy, but I'm exhausted!
Wish I could post some of the cool stuff I've been working on but it'll have to wait. Here's a couple sketches and a psychedelic diddy for ya!

The two above are sketches I did in the subway.
The two below are just me playing around with Sketchbook Pro's awesome symmetry tool. Sketchbook Pro is definitely worth the 100 bucks.
